Sewer Line Replacement Options for Lakewood Homes
Open-trench replacement is the standard method when the lateral has severe alignment issues, major pipe deformation, or a complex routing path with multiple bends. Excavation proceeds along the full lateral path from the house connection to the city main, the old clay pipe is removed, and new PVC SDR 35 pipe is installed at the correct grade in the open trench. The trench is then inspected, backfilled in layers, and compacted. Surface restoration of concrete driveways, concrete walkways, and landscaping is included in the project scope.
Trenchless pipe bursting is an option for laterals in reasonable alignment without major obstructions or deformations that would prevent the bursting head from advancing through the existing pipe. A bursting head is inserted from an access pit at the house connection, advanced through the old clay pipe by hydraulic or pneumatic force, fracturing and displacing the clay into the surrounding soil, and simultaneously pulling new HDPE pipe into the path created by the displaced clay. Pipe bursting eliminates the need for a full-length trench, reduces surface restoration costs, and typically takes less total time than open-trench replacement on a straight lateral in good soil. We assess the lateral path and condition before recommending which method is appropriate.
