Our Backflow Testing Process in Lakewood
Annual backflow preventer testing follows a standard procedure specified by the University of Southern California Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research, which is the California standard for backflow testing. The test evaluates each check valve and, for reduced pressure zone assemblies, the relief valve, by measuring differential pressure across each component under controlled flow conditions. Test results are recorded on a standard test form approved by the water purveyor, with the test date, tester certification number, device make and model, test point readings, and pass or fail result for each component.
After a passing test, we attach a current test tag to the device and submit the test report to the City of Lakewood Water Resources Department within the required reporting period. For devices that fail, we provide the written test results identifying which component failed and a repair or replacement estimate before proceeding. Most common failures, including worn check valve seats and failed O-ring seals, are repairable on-site using repair kit components appropriate to the specific assembly. Devices with failed bodies, severe corrosion, or outdated assemblies that are no longer serviceable are replaced with a new assembly of the appropriate type.
